Monocle Scent One: Hinoki
1120 kr
A COOL SPRING MORNING IN A STEAMY BATH IN TAWARAYA, KYOTO
Hinoki takes its name from the hinoki cypress tree, a tree that grows only in Japan and is used for building palaces, temples, shrines and the ancient Japanese Ofuro wooden baths. When the wood is cut fresh, it emits a citrus-fresh spicy scent, similar to the austere elegance of cedar.
The inspiration for Hinoki came from a visit to Tawaraya, a famous Japanese inn that has existed for three centuries and is located in Kyoto. Immersed in the square wooden bath filled with hot spring water and chilly morning, the idea of this perfume was born and the result is astonishing. Ofuro is perfectly captured: the rich scent of wood, the scents of nature's tender greenery and soft meditative incense.
Hinoki is a dry and fresh woody scent with an abstract "something" that gives it a mysterious edge and ability.
